AmoebaCorp is a multidisciplinary branding consultancy established in 1996 by partners Mikey Richardson and Mike Kelar. Over the years we’ve built a solid reputation for producing intelligent creative solutions for clientele who have recognized just how powerful great design can and should be.
We are tireless agents of positive change, working hard to identify and implement better ways of doing things through design.
AmoebaCorp provides the following creative services: Brand & Identity Programs, Interactive, Brand Consultation, Packaging & Product, Print & Editorial, Experience, Illustration and Film.
Amoeba originates from ancient Greek meaning “to change”. It is this innate ability to take on new shapes and forms – embracing new ideas, new challenges, new technologies and new experiences – that provides us with the strength and mental fortitude necessary to forge lasting and meaningful results. Not to mention relationships.
Delivering on what we say we’ll do is important to us. And if that matters to you nearly as much as it does to us, then what else matters?
When we started AmoebaCorp, we wanted to bring a human touch to our work - the mark of the craftsman, intuitive expression, passionate energy, even fun. We wanted to be on the forefront of new a generation of designers, a generation that could recognize the exciting new opportunities in blurring disciplinary boundaries while producing highly creative, smart and effective work.
We believe that the future belongs to those who can both THINK and MAKE.
"Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union" - Frank Lloyd Wright
We have a true respect and passion for our craft. We are proponents of using one’s head, heart and hands. We also believe that Art & Design are not the same thing. They are brothers and they love to work together and learn from each other, but they have different reasons for being. Design is primarily concerned with problem solving whereas Art is more motivated by personal expression. One is not better than the other, and we should all have a healthy respect for both.
Our company has changed a lot over the years, but our core consistent offering has been our ability to provide value in the form of design thinking.
There is a tendency to think of design as merely graphic design. In fact, graphic design is just one discipline within the broader activity of design thinking. There are many other design disciplines including architectural design, design strategy, art direction, industrial design, user experience design, illustration, fashion design, sound design, interactive design, etc.
In a broad sense, design thinking is a problem solving activity that often leverages many disciplines working in collaboration. It requires the ability to combine creativity and rationality to discover solutions that can drive an organization’s success.
To us, design is many things. It's the marriage of art and commerce. It's the ability to look at the whole, considering all of the individual parts. It brings clear thinking. It's about communicating an organization's positive qualities, distinguishing it from competitors. It's the last real point of difference for a business in a commoditized market. It's ubiquitous - it's everywhere.
At AmoebaCorp we create brands, update and improve existing brands, and communicate to the world on behalf of those brands so that more people feel good about the choices they make. Design thinking is how we do it.
We start each assignment with a blank slate because we really believe in filling our minds with information before we begin making creative assumptions. We employ a simple process. It's not extra-fancy and we haven't come up with a catchy trademarked name for it.
It involves developing a clear definition of the problem to be solved, immersive research leading to strategic insight areas, creative exploration of those areas and finally prototyping and implementation of selected ideas.
And it works.
This creative process is highly collaborative. In order to be effective, it has to be. It relies upon the input of the different types of thinkers both on our team and the stakeholders of our client teams. As a company we are about collaboration, as it’s the best way to repeatedly find innovative, effective solutions.
